The Clinical Futures, a CHOP Research Institute Center of Emphasis. provides a designated and centralized structure that focuses on the conduct of clinical effectiveness research. Its goal: to determine the best ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat pediatric illness. Driving this critical work is a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, biostatisticians, researchers, and public health experts whose research centers on improving the quality of care delivered to children.
The existing research expertise and infrastructure at Children's Hospital fuels Clinical Futures' commitment to exchanging of ideas among clinical effectiveness researchers, facilitating the performance of clinical effectiveness research through a pilot grant program and assistance with projects using national and local databases, and educating the next generation of clinical effectiveness researchers in the methods of clinical epidemiology. In addition, the center partners with other Hospital organizations to improve patient care and disseminate research findings that define the most effective healthcare for children.
Clinical Futures has its origins in the Pediatric Generalist Research Group at CHOP, which was formed to perform health services research. In 2007, the Pediatric Generalist Research Group split into two centers, the Clinical Futures and PolicyLab. Clinical Futures and PolicyLab remain close collaborators, and the two centers jointly oversee the Healthcare Analytics Unit, a resource for investigators using complex data to address research questions by providing expertise in statistical programming, advanced analysis, biostatistics, and clinical epidemiology.
