Postdoctoral Fellowships: Resources
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia postdocs have access to a variety of resources supporting onboarding, career exploration, and much more. Learn more about how to begin and achieve your goals below.
Postdoc Onboarding Programs
All newly hired postdocs are invited to Postdoc Orientation Sessions, held every two months. These sessions introduce the Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs (ATOP), share resources available to postdocs, and provide an opportunity to meet other new postdocs.
ATOP hosts Postdoc Check-In Sessions in February and August to share additional programs and resources that postdocs may be ready to start using about halfway through their first year. We also discuss the Postdoc Annual Review Process.
If you are unable to attend the sessions to which you are invited, please schedule a meeting with the ATOP staff to discuss the resources.
All CHOP postdocs are required to update their postdoc profile annually at the time of review, which includes information on education and training history. Update your profile (log in required).
Postdoc Annual Review
ATOP administers the Postdoc Annual Review between postdocs and their research mentors, encouraging transparency and accountability in the PI-postdoc relationship. You will receive an email prompting you to complete your review before the anniversary of your hire date. If you have any questions about your annual review or would like to discuss anything as you prepare for it, schedule a meeting with ATOP staff.
Resources for International Postdocs
Approximately half of the postdoctoral fellows at CHOP are foreign nationals hailing from more than 20 different countries. The postdoctoral experiences of foreign nationals can differ significantly from that of US citizens or permanent residents due to immigration and visa issues, language barriers, cultural discrepancies, and other challenges.
ATOP supports the unique needs of foreign postdocs through resources and programs developed in partnership with other groups at CHOP, including the Office of Immigration and Visa Services (OIVS, requires active directory login), the CHOP Postdoctoral Alliance (CPA), and the Inclusion in STEM (iSTEM) Employee Resource Group (requires active directory login). Visit the International Hub to learn more about CHOP resources for international postdocs.
Grants Hub
Begin your grant writing journey with streamlined grant development resources, programs, and contacts to navigate the proposal process at CHOP Research Institute. Find everything you need to identify funding sources and prepare and submit your grant proposal on the Grants Hub.
CHOP Research Institute requires all fellows, research trainees, NIH early career investigators, and research faculty to participate in a comprehensive Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training program, administered by the Office of Research Compliance.
Please note that although postdoctoral fellows may see RCR sessions advertised by the Biomedical Postdoc Programs Office at Penn, attending these sessions will not fulfill your CHOP RCR requirement.
Please direct RCR questions to researchtraining [at] chop.edu (researchtraining[at]chop[dot]edu).
