Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs

The Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs (ATOP) is committed to supporting the next generation of research scientists at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute. The department provides institutional oversight in three key strategic areas: academic training, outreach programs, and specialty programs and diversity.

The Academic Training team provides researchers-in-training with professional and career development through one-on-one counseling and postdoc program administration, and it also provides information and resources for grant applicants and CHOP Research Institute mentors. The Outreach Programs team develops programs to grow the STEM pipeline and engage the CHOP community while also maintaining oversight over research education programs. Some examples of these programs include the CHOP Research Institute Summer Scholars Program (CRISSP) and the CHOP Research Internship for Scholars and Emerging Scientists (CHOP-RISES) high school program. The Specialty Programs and Diversity team cultivates a diverse scientific workforce by developing and implementing novel pediatric research training programs for early career scientists, including postdoctoral fellowships for Academic Diversity, discipline-specific research training programs, and support for diverse and international scholars.
