Research Staffing Core FAQs
Yes. We work with all PIs and study staff throughout CHOP to help start up and manage their clinical research studies.
No. The Research Staffing Core staffs a variety of clinical research studies across the Research Institute, including, but not limited to PI-initiated, NIH studies, clinical trials, behavioral health, IND/IDE, data abstraction, interview/survey-based, registry, and all phases of clinical research studies.
We can help hire and train staff on how to conduct clinical research and navigate the various systems at CHOP to facilitate your clinical research.
- We handle onboarding, timecards, annual performance reviews, weekly check-ins, and ongoing research education and training.
- If you don't have funding for a full-time position, we can pair the staff member with another part-time assignment.
- If you have funding for only a limited time, we can help transition clinical research staff to another position once your study funding has ended.
Each coordinator will have an individualized plan for their orientation overseen by a team manager. We tailor each study coordinator’s orientation to their past research experience and to the projects they will be working on. Staff who are new to CHOP will be oriented to the organization and the various systems used.
The CRSO Research Staffing Core typically offers daytime availability Monday through Friday. Off-hours needs can be discussed and will be dependent on staff availability.
Please complete the RSC request form, and the RSC director will reach out to help determine the appropriate staff and effort for your project.
If your study funding ends, we will reassign our staff to work with other PIs within the Research Institute.
We cannot provide supervision and administrative oversight, but we may be able to help with training staff outside of the RSC. We are available to provide information on mandatory CRC training and available educational resources for new clinical research staff.
Yes, we may move your team into the RSC if guaranteed funding is available to support their salaries.
Yes, we can provide a CHOP study coordinator if the PI has an appointment at CHOP. The study coordinator will need to obtain the appropriate Penn access to utilize Penn systems. This access needs to be granted by the Penn PI’s department that you’re working with.
Yes, we require our staff to attend weekly meetings with their team managers along with monthly staff meetings.
The team manager routinely meets with the study staff to go over projects and provide oversight, management, and support. They also provide professional development guidance and training as needed. Team managers oversee timekeeping and schedules, and conduct yearly annual reviews. They may also attend meetings with the PI and study coordinator as needed.
Yes, most of our staff work hybrid schedules with PI approval. However, this is dependent on the needs of the study.
