The Research Staffing Core (RSC) provides investigators and study teams with clinical research staff to assist in the start-up, execution, and completion of clinical research studies. The RSC is part of the Clinical Research Support Office (CRSO) within the Research Institute at CHOP.

Our team includes clinical research professionals with diverse backgrounds, education, and experience, including Research Assistants, Clinical Research Coordinators, Clinical Research Nurse Coordinators, Clinical Research Respiratory Therapist Coordinators, Study Leads/Managers, and Program Managers.

The RSC staff has experience with all types of clinical research studies, including PI-initiated, behavioral health, data abstraction, interview/survey-based, registry, and all phases of clinical trials, which include drug and device trials.

CRSO RSC staff work with 30 PIs from 18 departments and divisions.

Staff are available full or part-time on a fee-for-service basis to assist investigators at all stages in the implementation and conduct of their clinical research studies.

Our leadership team is available to conduct all aspects of the hiring and onboarding process, including orientation of new staff. Our team managers oversee administrative tasks and management of research staff to allow the PI to focus on PI-specific tasks.

Our leadership team is also responsible for managing the Research Institute's mandatory Clinical Research Coordinator Fundamentals Training and Online Study Coordinator Modules.

Advantages of using the Research Staffing Core

The RSC can provide the following assistance to investigators and study teams:

  • Review resumes and screen applicants, assist with interviewing, onboarding, and orientation of new hires
  • Provide stability to individuals hired into the RSC so that even as one PI's funding or needs change, a trial stops, or a PI leaves, the staff hired to work for them have other opportunities to work with other PIs within the Research Institute
  • Collaborate with PIs to determine appropriate staff and time needed to support research study
  • Provide standardized orientation, training, and supervision
  • Hire staff with flexibility for either a part-time or full-time status
  • Collaborate with Team Managers on oversight and responsibilities of staff
  • Assist investigators in developing a team as their research portfolio expands
  • Assign staff to a team/PI until study ends or funding is no longer available, unless PI initiates a change in assignment
