Developing and implementing strategy to lead the operations of the research-related regulatory, compliance, and safety programs across all types of research including human, animal, and laboratory-based research.



Matthew Hodgson leads the research compliance program which includes the offices supporting the Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and Institutional Biosafety Committee; the Office of Research Safety; the Office of Research Compliance; the Shipping Core; the policy and procedure documentation program; the animal post-approval monitoring program; the research quality assurance and monitoring programs including clinical research billing compliance; the export control and foreign national screening program; and other enterprise research compliance activities. He develops and implements annual compliance plans with the input of these oversight committees and key stakeholders. Hodgson also oversees internal investigations of compliance concerns and supports management, legal counsel, and institutional committees with any special tasks or projects.
