Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute includes a robust community of investigators and scientists who are dedicated to training the next generation of pediatric researchers. CHOP Research Institute Summer Scholars Program (CRISSP) aims to open our community to undergraduate students from all backgrounds who are interested in exploring careers in pediatric research.

CRISSP is a 10-week, full-time internship during which participants train under the direct supervision of a mentor responsible for a lab or research group and learn research design, techniques, and analysis. As part of their research experience, students complete an independent research project and present a poster at the conclusion of the program. Opportunities are available in basic/translational, clinical, and behavioral research teams.

In addition to the research experience, the Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs coordinates professional development opportunities to enable interns to develop personally and professionally. Participants attend weekly CRISSP luncheons hosted by program faculty and discuss topics such as mentorship, goal setting, and elevator pitches. Students also gain career and professional insights through completion of an Individual Development Plan, conducting informational interviews, and participating in clinical shadowing opportunities.
