As a worldwide clinical, research, and education leader, the Department of Radiology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is committed to improving access to excellent pediatric imaging care and facilitating pediatric radiology knowledge dissemination and collaboration. The CHOP Global Pediatric Radiology Education and Outreach Program was established in 2008 by Kassa Darge, MD, PhD, DTM&P, FSAR, FESU, Radiologist-in-Chief and Department Chair, to carry out the departmental vision beyond our borders by establishing sustainable programmatic partnerships with colleagues around the world. Under the leadership of Hansel Otero, MD, FAAP, between 2017 through 2023, we expanded our portfolio of clinical and educational outreach as well as our international research support. The program is currently managed by Abass Noor, MD.

The program supports educational and outreach activities with a special focus in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In partnership with Addis Ababa University's Department of Radiology, CHOP provides pediatric radiology education during residency and a two-year pediatric radiology fellowship. In addition to Ethiopia, we have programmatic sites in Argentina, Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Vietnam, Austria and the United States.

The department provides support for a biennial regional pediatric radiology course in Argentina and organizes a semiannual Radiology Global Health Exchange to keep our department and local global health partners informed about our initiatives and to foster collaborations. Additionally, the Global Radiology Research Fellowship began in the Spring of 2021 to further our international alliances and develop more relevant educational content.

Our global program relies on CHOP Radiology and international colleagues’ expertise and devotion to service, who help make it the best of its kind. - Hansel Otero, MD
