U.S. News National Survey Ranks CHOP Specialty Areas in Top Ten

Three cheers for our Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia team for once again achieving outstanding rankings in the U.S. News & World Report 11^th annual Best Children's Hospitals rankings. CHOP earned second place on the Honor Roll, a distinction awarded to pediatric centers that deliver exceptionally high-quality care across multiple specialties.

Special congratulations go to our diabetes and endocrinology program and pulmonology program, which ranked first in the nation in this year’s survey. Our neonatology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology programs earned second-place rankings. Oncology earned a third-place ranking. Cardiology and cardiac surgery ranked ninth.

All of these honors recognize the high level of excellence demonstrated by our skilled staff and talented researchers who establish the evidence for the best practices and optimum care that our clinicians provide.

In a note to CHOP employees, < a href="https://www.chop.edu/executive-leadership/madeline-bell-president-and-ceo" target="_blank">Madeline Bell, president and chief executive officer of CHOP, acknowledged “the hard work and dedication of all CHOP employees who have ensured that all of our clinical specialties evaluated by U.S. News have remained in the ‘Top 10’ in the nation.”

U.S. News & World Report determined which hospitals are at the top of their class by gathering key clinical data from 113 medical centers through a detailed survey that looks at measures such as patient safety, infection prevention, and adequacy of nurse staffing. In addition, part of each hospital’s score is derived from surveys of more than 11,000 pediatric specialists who are asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty.
