About the Topic
Dr. Balamuth will describe challenges with pediatric sepsis identification and opportunities to improve based on electronic health record (EHR) data. The talk will give a broad overview of an upcoming CDC-funded study to develop an EHR-based pediatric sepsis surveillance definition and apply this definition to obtain national estimates of incidence and outcomes of sepsis events in children.
About the Speaker
Dr. Balamuth’s research interests focus on pediatric sepsis recognition using both epidemiologic and translational approaches. She is the co-Principal Investigator of the PRagMatic Pediatric Trial of Balanced vs. nOrmaL Saline FlUid in Sepsis (PRoMPT BOLUS trial, a multinational pragmatic trial which compares saline versus balanced fluids in pediatric sepsis.
