CHOP's Pediatrics Department Tops U.S. News & World Report 2017 Rankings

We are thrilled to announce that the Department of Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania was named the top pediatrics graduate program in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Hundreds of full-time faculty members at CHOP train future physicians and research scientists in a variety of programs every year.

“We extend congratulations to our faculty and staff and particularly, to Dr. Joseph St. Geme, our physician-in-chief and Pediatrics Department chair, for the impressive record of medical and academic excellence recognized today,” said Madeline Bell, president and chief executive officer of CHOP.

This year’s rankings were exactly the same as a year ago, with U.S. News & World Report recognizing the CHOP and Penn department as the nation’s best, followed by the departments of pediatrics at Harvard University in second place and the University of Cincinnati in third place.

Each year, the magazine ranks graduate school programs in business, education, engineering, law, nursing, and medicine. The 2017 standings are based on expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research, and students. The data come from surveys of administrators, academics and professionals that were conducted during the fall of 2015 and early 2016.  The rankings also take into account an institution’s research activity, reflected in grant awards to faculty from the National Institutes of Health.

This marks the 13th consecutive year that our Department of Pediatrics has been ranked first or second in the nation. This is an extraordinary accomplishment, and we applaud Dr. St. Geme and everyone at CHOP who is committed to excellence and improving children’s health every day in remarkable ways.
