Starting a research project requires careful management of your data files, and the Arcus Team can help you structure your data, establish consistent file naming conventions, sort files logically, and avoid overwriting or deletion of data. Accurate file naming and organization are essential for efficient data sharing and preventing confusion when collaborating with others.

Arcus is a free program, available to the CHOP research community. You do not need to have an Arcus project in place to take advantage of assistance with following:

  • File Structuring
Structure research data, and store necessary tools and documentation including websites, blogs, articles, citations, methodologies, notes, and spreadsheets.
  • File Naming
Create a consistent file naming plan for shared workspaces by establishing file naming conventions for quick identification and location of files, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
  • Data Dictionary
Develop a data dictionary outlining the structure and content of your data, including its names and types, to provide a reliable source of information and documentation regarding your data collection, collection methods, and storage locations.
  • Data Collection and Transformation
Recommend data collection, analysis, and transformation techniques for standardized data and documentation to make publishing, reproducing, and replication more accessible.
  • Data Standards
Guide the selection and implementation of external data standards to ensure interoperability between your datasets and across other projects.
