A new grant is allowing researchers to study a program educating teachers to detect, prevent, and respond to bullying in the classroom.

Conducting hospital- and community-based research to reduce exposure to and impact of violence among children and families, and designing innovative, evidence-based programs and initiatives that are implemented across clinical, school, and neighborhood settings.

Through the Friend to Friend Program, researchers will coach counselors, teachers, and students on navigating relational aggression.

Dr. Waasdorp’s research focuses on translating child development theory and literature into prevention and intervention programming as well as examining the efficacy of school-based programming. Her programs aim to reduce bullying and aggression, improve children’s social and emotional skills, and help adults promote children’s positive peer relationships. She also has a strong focus on research methodology and related statistics.

Dr. Leff's background is in child clinical psychology, and he has broad training and expertise in intervention research, mixed methods, and in leading a range of federally funded research initiatives. His research goal is to use community-based participatory research (CBPR) to develop and validate school-based aggression and bullying intervention programs and assessment tools for urban minority youth.
