Geena Jung is interested in elucidating the molecular basis of pediatric low-grade gliomas, one of the most common forms of brain tumors found in children, by investigating the genes and pathways that control tumor cell invasion and proliferation.
Bio
Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Geena Jung attended Georgetown University before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania to study neuroscience. While at Penn, Jung served as an EMT with Penn’s Medical Emergency Response Team and volunteered at Penn’s Performing Arts House, where she taught music to children from local West Philadelphia schools.
Jung joined the Song Lab in the beginning of 2019 as a student interested in the mechanisms underlying cancer, specifically that of the nervous system. She stayed in the lab as a research technician following graduation and plans to attend medical school in the Fall of 2022. Until then, Jung works with novel fly glioma models to investigate the genes and pathways that control tumor cell invasion and proliferation.
She loves to watch comedy shows, bake sweets with her roommates, and explore Philadelphia.
