Originally established in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1872 to provide rehabilitative care for children, the Children’s Seashore House moved to Philadelphia in 1990. Today, the Seashore House’s 18-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit sits on CHOP's University City Campus, where a multidisciplinary team is dedicated to the care of children with acute rehabilitation needs due to neurocognitive, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, integumentary, and musculoskeletal deficits and injuries. The Seashore House also features a day hospital program offering rehabilitation; physical, occupational, speech-language, and feeding therapy; and educational services on an outpatient basis.
