Originally established in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1872 to provide rehabilitative care for children, the Children’s Seashore House moved to Philadelphia in 1990. Today, the Seashore House’s 18-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit sits on CHOP's University City Campus, where a multidisciplinary team is dedicated to the care of children with acute rehabilitation needs due to neurocognitive, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, integumentary, and musculoskeletal deficits and injuries. The Seashore House also features a day hospital program offering rehabilitation; physical, occupational, speech-language, and feeding therapy; and educational services on an outpatient basis.

Ann Tokay Harrington, PT, DPT, PhD

Dr. Harrington's research is focused on gross motor development and the promotion of physical fitness and mobility in children and adolescents with conditions resulting from neurological, neuromuscular, and genetic disorders.

The Neuromotor Performance Lab (NMPL) is a destination for innovative study and evaluation of motor performance in infants, children, and adolescents.

Laura A. Prosser, PhD

Dr. Prosser's research focuses are the development and rehabilitation of movement in children, particularly those with neurological impairments. This includes the investigation of the development of impaired movement, the study of novel motor rehabilitation interventions in children, and the interaction between the processes of neuroplasticity and neuromaturation in sensorimotor systems.

The Center for Human Phenomic Science Nutrition Assessment Unit is a state-of-the-art facility for the assessment of growth and body dimensions, body composition, energy expenditure, bone density, and muscle strength.

Muhammad Saleh, PhD

Dr. Saleh develops and applies novel magnetic resonance spectroscopy methods to understand brain development and the impact of neurological diseases in children and adults.

Guannan Shen, PhD

Dr. Shen's research interests center on understanding the network dynamics of multisensory and sensorimotor interactions and their contribution to fine motor skills, particularly regarding speech and language development.

Yuhan Chen, PhD

Dr. Chen's research uses MEG, EEG, and MRI to understand the maturation of brain function and structure in infants and young children with typical development and at-risk/with neurodevelopmental disorders. Her work focuses on how early brain development contributes to neurodevelopmental outcomes.

William C. Gaetz, PhD

Dr. Gaetz uses magnetoencephalography (MEG) imaging to gain a deeper understanding of the neurobiology of cortical function in human health and disease. He has an interest in assessing the functional significance of somatosensory and motor cortical oscillations in children using MEG.
