Welcome message from Bryan Wolf, MD, PhD
Hi, I’m Dr. Bryan Wolf, Chief Scientific Officer for the CHOP Research Institute. I want to welcome you to CHOP and tell you a little bit about who we are and what we do. I hope by doing so you immediately feel part of our CHOP family. We’re glad you’re here!
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is world renowned for its innovative treatments and a level of care and commitment that is unparalleled. We often hear about the incredible advances in patient care at CHOP. These stories are nothing short of astounding and inspirational.
Those breakthroughs at a patient’s bedside are driven by innovation and discovery, and that’s what we strive for every day at the Research Institute. We’ve had tremendous success over nearly 100 years of groundbreaking research. There is no greater satisfaction or motivation for us than advancing the health of children by turning scientific discovery into medical innovation.
From laboratory discoveries like personalized cellular immunotherapy for childhood cancer, to the development of new vaccines, to establishing public policies to improve child safety, our remarkable scientific achievements are transforming the lives of our patients and their families.
Complementing these breakthroughs is critical work behind the scenes by talented and dedicated Research Administration professionals just like you. Together, you keep the wheels of scientific progress in full motion and build upon CHOP’s legacy as one of the world’s preeminent pediatric research institutions.
Our Research Administration professionals work in areas like grant award management, finance, compliance, clinical trial support, faculty development, safety, information services, and communications, among others.
On the surface it may appear these teams work in vastly different areas, but all administrative units within Research Administration collaborate and are interconnected, working together as one team bound by a common mission and vision.
As important as it is to get to know the colleagues you work with every day, it is just as important to get to know those leading the Research Institute as well.
Our Chief Scientific Strategy Officer implements our strategic plan, oversees the allocation of space and resources, and assists in recruiting researchers. This role is key in coordinating scientific efforts between CHOP and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Our Assistant Vice President and Chief Clinical Research Officer sets the course for the development and oversight of clinical research operations across CHOP.
Our Vice President for Research Administration and Operations oversees several Research Administration departments that support investigators in their day-to-day needs, while looking for ways to enhance teamwork and collaboration.
Our Vice President, Research Compliance and Regulatory Affairs enables investigators to carry out all types of research projects in a manner consistent with local and federal requirements.
Our Vice President of Technology Transfer, Commercialization & Innovation works with investigators to create partnerships that help to advance inventions, collaborative development, and entrepreneurship.
Our Associate Vice-President and Chief Research Informatics Officer makes sure the Research Institute is the industry leader in use of data and technology to solve challenging problems in child health.
And our Senior Director of Research Information Services supports our infrastructure, web, desktop services, applications and analytics. The goal is to provide digital solutions that support our staff to help them make breakthroughs every day.
No matter what your role at the Research Institute, your commitment to excellence will help to advance child health discoveries and clinical practice breakthroughs. You have joined a vibrant, involved, and collaborative community of distinguished researchers and talented, supportive professionals.
Everyone here – from senior leadership to the person who works across from you every day – is here to help you succeed.
