The study aims to determine whether evaluation of respiratory epithelial cell gene expression and protein profiling of exhaled breath condensate can identify ARDS subtypes.

Aim 1: Perform transcriptomics on samples of nasal epithelial cells obtained from brushing in children with ARDS on days 1, 3, 7, and 14 after eligibility.
Aim 2: Perform unbiased proteomic analysis on exhaled breath condensate collected from filters of subjects with ARDS who remain invasively ventilated on days 1, 3, 7, and 14 after eligibility.
