Have your critical data, residing on servers or network storage devices, be backed up to secure storage.

As of June 2020, all data that requires backup for the CHOP Research Community will be stored on the backup storage cluster and an S3 compatible Object Store.

Research IS is able to provide full backups of all data that requires backup, to systems that are located at 3 separate CHOP datacenters. Backups of systems are configured to be in an alternate datacenter from the production system. This eliminates the need to have backups taken off-site to a tape storage facility.

Backups have a retention schedule that expires the data automatically when the expiration date is reached. Data that is stored on the backup storage cluster is also able to be removed at a requested time without affecting any other backups.

Standard retention for a Research fileshare is:

  • 2 snapshots daily for 14 days
  • 1 full backup weekly kept for 8 weeks
  • 1 full monthly for 1 year
  • 1 full yearly for 3 years

Fileshares should be requested through our Cirrus portal with the option for backups.  Once the share is created, it will be added to the backup schedule.
