Postdocs for Progress in Science
Postdocs for Progress in Science (PPS) is group open to all postdocs from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and University of Pennsylvania with an interest in creating a welcoming and professionally supportive workplace for postdocs of all backgrounds and lived experiences at the Research Institute. PPS strives to build community and provide support for successful navigation of the postdoc and transition to the next career stage. PPS also partners with students from schools in the Tri-State area through programming to educate, cultivate relationships, and to enhance the development of future scientists. This programming provides students with mentorship as well as career exposure.
Our Mission
PPS is a community of postdocs at CHOP, committed to making science more representative and accessible to all. PPS aims to create a welcoming environment at CHOP so that all trainees can reach their fullest potential. Additionally, the group is involved in giving back to the community through programming and mentoring students from the local community who may have faced barriers to entering STEM fields.
What We Do
PPS's actions are two-fold:
- We actively promote a culture of belonging across CHOP with a focus on personal and professional development of postdocs. Additionally, we develop programming for the CHOP and Penn communities to address the needs of an inclusive STEM workforce.
- We work to build STEM pathways through partnering with students from schools in the Tri-State area through programming to educate, cultivate relationships, and to enhance the development of future scientists. This programming provides students with mentorship as well as career exposure.
