Dr. Weitzman's research program aims to understand host responses to virus infection, and the cellular environment encountered and manipulated by viruses. He studies multiple viruses in an integrated experimental approach that combines biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and cell biology.
Dr. Bergelson's research focuses on the interaction of viruses with their cellular receptors. His lab identified receptors for echoviruses, coxsackieviruses, and adenoviruses, and studied their structure, physiologic function, and role in virus infection and pathogenesis in animals.
He is particularly interested in the cell biology of virus entry into cells, and receptor-induced signals required for specific events in the entry process.
Dr. Bunin's current research focuses on the development of hematopoietic stem cell graft engineering for allogeneic transplantation to minimize graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), promote engraftment and immune reconstitution. She has also developed protocols for rapid manufacture of viral cytotoxic T lymphocytes to treat or prevent life threatening viral infections post hematopoietic stem cell transplant.
Dr. Laskin's research focuses on the conduct of clinical investigations and translational studies designed to target mechanisms to prevent, treat, or slow the progression of chronic kidney disease in immunosuppressed patients, including children receiving a bone marrow or kidney transplant.
