Yair Argon, PhD
Yair Argon

Dr. Argon investigates the unfolded protein response (UPR) , an essential signaling network that determines life or death of stressed cells and tissues. The IRE1 sensor of UPR responds to metabolic stress through four distinct activities and he focuses on determining which stress condition induces each activity and how they are integrated to enable the cells to cope with stress.

Nikolaos G. Sgourakis, PhD
Nikolaos G. Sgourakis

Dr. Sgourakis’ research focuses on understanding the intricate molecular mechanisms that determine the vast repertoire of peptide antigens displayed by the proteins of the Major Histocompatibility Complex for immune surveillance by T cells and Natural Killer cells.

E-mail:
sgourakisn [at] chop.edu
Leyuan Ma, PhD
Leyuan Ma

Dr. Ma focuses on immune engineering. He leverages genetic, chemistry, and engineering tools to dissect immune cell-cell and cell-tissue crosstalk and harness these crosstalk mechanisms to develop biomaterials, protein, and cell-based precision immunotherapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases.

Stanley Stachelek, PhD
Stanley J. Stachelek

Dr. Stachelek's research interests are in the cellular and molecular mechanisms that control vasculature inflammation.

E-mail:
stachelek [at] chop.edu
Michael S. Marks, PhD
Michael S. Marks

Dr. Marks investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation of cell type-specific lysosome-related organelles; the assembly, delivery and function of their contents; and how these processes are impacted by genetic diseases.

E-mail:
marksms [at] chop.edu
Rodney M. Camire, PhD
Rodney M. Camire Headshot

Dr. Camire's research focuses on understanding the components of the blood coagulation system, how they interface with activated cells, and how disturbances in their function lead to bleeding and thrombosis. He is also interested in developing novel therapeutic approaches (protein, gene-based, small molecule) to mitigate these events, which are major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.

Melanie A. Ruffner, MD, PhD
Melanie A. Ruffner

Classic food allergies are mediated through immunoglobulin E and manifest as hives, vomiting, and anaphylaxis. Dr. Ruffner investigates the immune mechanisms of food allergy disorders which are not mediated through immunoglobulin E. In particular, the mechanisms of eosinophilic esophagitis and food-protein induced enterocolitis syndrome are of particular interest in Dr. Ruffner's laboratory.

Harry Ischiropoulos, PhD
Haralambos Ischiropoulos

Dr. Ischiropoulos's research objectives are to develop and test novel therapeutics for long-chain fatty acid oxidation (LCFA) disorders, a collection of inherited metabolic diseases that affect the heart, liver and muscle. A second area of interest is the resolution of the nitric oxide signaling pathways at the proteome level in the cardiovascular and neuronal systems.

Benjamin J. Samelson-Jones, MD, PhD
Benjamin J. Samelson-Jones

Dr. Samelson-Jones is a pediatric hematologist dedicated to improving the lives of children with bleeding and clotting disorders. His research focuses on gene therapy for hemophilia, the biochemical basis of coagulation, and the immune responses to hemophilia therapies.

E-mail:
samelsonjonesb [at] chop.edu
Jonathan M. Spergel, MD, PhD
Jonathan M. Spergel Headshot

Dr. Spergel focuses on translational research in IgE-mediated and non-IgE-mediated food allergy, examining novel clinical methods for desensitization and curing food allergy. His other main projects are to identify predictive factors for severity of reactions using molecular, physiologic, and clinical parameters.
