Joseph W. Rossano, MD
Joseph W. Rossano

Dr. Rossano's extensive research experience primarily involves the epidemiology and outcomes of cardiovascular disease in children, and multi-institutional collaborative observational and interventional studies. His particular research interests include evaluating the treatment and outcomes of pediatric cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and transplantation.

Kelly D. Getz, PhD, MPH
Kelly D. Getz

Dr. Getz develops and applies advanced methods to enable epidemiologic research that aims to optimize the treatment and supportive care of children with cancer by balancing the therapeutic benefits and toxicity risks with an emphasis in cardio-oncology.

E-mail:

Justin Berger, MD, PhD
Justin H. Berger

Dr. Berger's research focus involves the development of pediatric heart failure and underlying metabolic drivers. He studies how improving metabolic dysregulation may also benefit cardiac dysfunction.

E-mail:
bergerj [at] chop.edu
Jonathan J. Edwards, MD
Jonathan J. Edwards

Dr. Edwards' focus is on unraveling mechanisms of right ventricular heart failure. To this end, he employs multi-omics approaches to human-derived biospecimens for target discovery and in vitro cardiomyocyte and in vivo mouse models for mechanistic validation and investigation.

Danielle S. Burstein, MD
Danielle S. Burstein
Dr. Burstein's research primarily involves the epidemiology and outcomes of cardiovascular disease in children with heart failure and heart transplantation. She is most interested in better understanding the role of safe exercise in children with heart failure and congenital heart disease.
E-mail:
bursteind [at] chop.edu
Liming Pei, PhD
Liming Pei

Dr. Pei's research aims to understand the molecular underpinnings of cardiac remodeling associated with cardiomyopathy and heart failure. He is particularly interested in two areas of cardiac remodeling: metabolic reprogramming, and secretion of heart-derived hormones to communicate with other organs.

Betsy Goldmuntz, MD
Elizabeth Goldmuntz

Dr. Goldmuntz's research focuses on the genetic basis and modifiers of congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and heart failure. Her goal is to identify genetic alterations conferring a risk for congenital heart disease and to correlate these findings with clinical outcomes. To this end, she is also performing clinical translational studies.

Xilma R. Ortiz-Gonzalez, MD, PhD
Xilma R. Ortiz-Gonzalez

Dr. Ortiz-Gonzalez is a physician-scientist specializing in pediatric neurogenetics. Her clinical work focuses on finding a unifying genetic diagnosis for children with rare neurodevelopmental disorders. Her research is informed by her patients and focuses on understanding how genetic changes, in particular those affecting mitochondrial function, cause disease so we can develop better treatments for these children in the future.

Rebecca C. Ahrens-Nicklas, MD, PhD
Rebecca C. Ahrens-Nicklas, MD, PhD

Dr. Ahrens-Nicklas works to understand why patients with inherited biochemical disorders often suffer severe, untreatable neurologic and cardiac symptoms. She strives to elucidate the link between biochemistry and network excitability, in order to drive new approaches to therapy.

E-mail:
ahrensnicklasr [at] chop.edu
Jonathan Edelson, MD
Jonathan Edelson

Dr. Edelson research focuses on enhancing the care of children with congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and after heart transplant.
