Dr. Canna is a physician-scientist studying the mechanisms that drive autoinflammatory and/or hyperinflammatory diseases. His work leans on genetic, biomarker, and therapeutic insights gleaned from studying inflammasome and cytokine storm disorders.
Bio
Dr. Canna has led an independent translational research program since 2017, but has been dedicated to leveraging genetic and clinical insights to improve mechanistic understanding and outcomes for patients with immune dysregulation diseases since 2005. His group has made foundational contributions to the fields of inflammasome and cytokine biology, with translational impacts related to measuring and manipulating cytokines like Interleukin-18 in diseases like macrophage activation syndrome. He led teams at the NIAMS Intramural Research Program and University of Pittsburgh before being recruited back to the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2021 to help expand the clinical and research potential of the CHOP Immune Dysregulation program.
