Bio
Madison Herling, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow in the Rivella Lab. As part of the lab's gene therapy team, Dr. Herling investigates epitope editing of cell surface receptors as a means with which to shield grafted HSPCs from targeted myeloablation and increase chimerism post-transplant. His research is partially supported by the NIH T32 Hematology Training Fellowship Program.
Dr. Herling earned his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Franklin & Marshall College in 2014 with a chemistry major and applied mathematics minor, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He then spent two post-baccalaureate years studying cardiac development and collagen self-assembly, after which he began his graduate career at the University of Pennsylvania in 2016.
Dr. Herling earned a Master of Science in computational organic chemistry in 2019 and a PhD in chemical biology in 2024.
For his dissertation, he developed the small interfering (si) RNA-Mimetic Ratiometric pH (sMiRpH) probe platform for studying the cellular uptake and delivery of siRNA.
