Enrichment Program

The Enrichment Program promotes innovative multidisciplinary research in pediatric kidney disease through promoting involvement by students and residents, with programs including a Summer Scholars Program for students, and Travel Awards to national meetings for residents.

Pilot and Feasibility Program

The Pilot and Feasibility Program aims to break down barriers to implementing clinical trials in childhood kidney disease. Each year, the PCEN seeks applications to support at least one pilot and feasibility research project with funding of up to $50,000 per project.

CHOP's Pediatric Center of Excellence in Nephrology (CHOP PCEN) aims to break down barriers to implementing clinical trials in childhood kidney disease. Each year the Center seeks applications to support at least one pilot and feasibility research project. Maximum funding is $50,000 for one year.

The Call for Pilot/Feasibility Proposals for Clinical Trials in Pediatric Kidney Disease is currently open.

Call for Pilot/Feasibility Proposals for Clinical Trials in Pediatric Kidney Disease

Applications must include human subjects research in pediatric nephrology. Basic science research or diseases outside pediatric kidney disease are not accepted. Proposals must focus on research that will directly lead to clinical trials in pediatric nephrology and may utilize one of the CHOP PCEN Cores, including our collaboration with the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) study. The Administrative Core will facilitate collaborations with the CKiD study. The pilot application itself does not have to be a clinical trial.

Eligibility

Early-stage investigators, new investigators, or established investigators not previously involved in pediatric nephrology research are invited to apply. Research topics should be human subjects research related to the prevention, treatment, or progression of kidney disease in children and its associated morbidities, and identifying novel strategies for subsequent clinical trials.

Key Dates

  • Intent to apply surveys are due by Friday, October 27, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
  • Invitations to submit Full Applications will be issued by November 13, 2023.
  • Full Applications are due by Friday, December 15, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
  • Awards will be announced in March 2024.

The funding period will be April 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025.
