Engaging Communities in Research to Improve Science
Speaker

About the Talk
Engaging communities in research is crucial to addressing and preventing health inequities, which have become intractable among marginalized populations. Unfortunately, authentically and consistently engaging communities in research continues to be complex and challenging, especially without the necessary infrastructure to sustain engagement. Although types of community engaged-research such as community-based participatory research have existed for decades, the field has rapidly evolved and is increasingly important across the spectrum of clinical research.
Seminar Objectives
To improve science and optimize health for all populations, researchers must be able to:
- Explain the importance of engaging communities in research
- Identify approaches to meaningfully involving communities across all stages of clinical and translational research factors
- Describe strategies for conducting research with a wide-range of communities including those historically excluded from and exploited by research
- Demonstrate trustworthiness when engaging and communicating with communities
Refreshments will be provided to in-person attendees.
