CHOP’s Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) will be presenting a webinar for teachers, school staff, and school administrators entitled, "Is That Really Bullying? How to Tell and What Schools Can Do." This webinar will educate attendees so that they understand the issue of bullying, know how to recognize it, and how to help individuals involved in bullying.

Bullying is a damaging and pervasive issue facing schools. In 2019, about 1 in 5 students, ages 12-18, reported being bullied at school during the school year. Additionally, between 42.7% and 66.4% of students, in grades 4-12, report having witnessed bullying.

Bullying is defined as repeated, intentional aggressive behavior toward someone with less social and/or physical power. Students involved with bullying can experience emotional harm, physical injury, and academic challenges. Despite its frequency and severity, bullying is often overlooked by adults due to limited student reporting or school staff’s beliefs that students can handle the situations independently. Importantly, due to the power imbalance between the individual(s) who bully, and the individual(s) being bullied, adult intervention is critical to end bullying.
