We are inviting teens and young adults with Down syndrome (DS) and their care givers to participate in a study that aims to improve the way we explain research studies to individuals with DS. Our goal is to create tools to help explain what it means to be in a research study and to get feedback on how we can improve these tools.

Kids and teens with Down syndrome are more likely to become overweight. Teenagers with DS often have more body fat than other people their age and might have higher chances of getting health issues like diabetes and heart problems. This study looked at ways to measure body fat and risk for these health problems in kids and teens with Down syndrome compared to other healthy people. The goal was to help doctors find better ways to check for and stop these health problems in kids and teens with Down syndrome.

Sleep problems are common in people with Down syndrome (DS). A special sleep test in a hospital is usually needed to find these problems, but it can cost a lot of money and be hard to get. This makes it hard for doctors to study how sleep problems affect people with Down syndrome. There is a home test for sleep problems that is sometimes used for adults, but we don’t know enough about how this home test works for people with Down syndrome. Showing how useful the home test is for people with Down syndrome will hopefully help to improve sleep care and check-ups.
