Vascular anomalies — which occur when arteries, capillaries, veins or lymphatic vessels fail to develop correctly — can range from mild to very complex. The complex cases can be debilitating through disrupting blood and lymph flow, exerting physical pressure on nearby structures, and affecting normal metabolic processes. This program seeks to build a national leading center to care for complex vascular anomalies by establishing an integrated clinical team, allowing for true multidisciplinary care. In parallel, the program will identify the underlying genetic mutations that cause complex cases and identify targeted and potentially curative therapies.

The Complex Vascular Anomalies Program received Frontier status for Fiscal Year 2020.
