The CAR Autism Roadmap™ would not be possible without the generous support of Susan and Don Wenger and family. The Wengers became involved with the autism program at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) after their grandson was red-flagged for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at a visit to his pediatrician. After witnessing first-hand the difficulty of finding reliable information on-line and locating autism-specific resources, the Wengers provided financial support to help realize a long-time dream of the CHOP’s Center for Autism Research (CAR) – the creation of the CAR Autism Roadmap.™

Like many families, the Wengers had certainly heard of autism and ASD in the news, but until it touched their family, they did not truly understand how a family’s life could be turned upside down by a diagnosis. In Susan Wenger’s words, “After doing much research and after many meetings and phone calls, it became evident that we were facing a very long journey with many obstacles in our path. How could finding guidance be so difficult and locating the appropriate therapists next to impossible?!”

The Center for Autism Research and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia are immensely grateful to the Wenger Family for their help in creating a comprehensive website providing families with accurate information about ASD. Thanks to the Wengers, the CAR Autism Roadmap™ includes a directory of therapists, support groups, and other resources, and hundreds of articles to assist families and individuals living with ASD throughout various stages of life. With so much information available on the internet, CAR hopes this will be a good starting point for reliable information for families who need help finding their way.

In addition to the Wenger family, we would like to acknowledge and thank all who helped develop the CAR Autism Roadmap™. The majority of information included in this website was developed by the researchers and staff at the Center for Autism Research at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, many community partners and families contributed to the development of the site. Thank you to all who helped:
