The Investigational Pharmacy will relocate to a newly renovated pharmacy location on the fourth floor of the Main Hospital over the weekend of May 2 to May 3, 2020. The Investigational Pharmacy will occupy the pharmacy space that previously provided anesthesia and total peripheral nutrition services.

CHOP study teams and research staff should:

  1. Become familiar with the changes associated with this pharmacy relocation.
  2. Provide the updated Investigational Drug Service shipping address immediately to external sponsors and suppliers:

    Investigational Drug Service
    Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
    3401 Civic Center Blvd / Room AW19
    Philadelphia, PA 19104

  3. Plan to pick up research medications for outpatient and clinic studies from the new fourth floor pharmacy location beginning Monday, May 4, 2020.
  4. Plan to bring study auditors and monitors to the new fourth floor pharmacy location for a previously scheduled visit when onsite monitoring is permitted to resume.

Investigational Pharmacy Location

The new Investigational Pharmacy location will include dedicated space for auditors, a medication pick-up window, and a non-sterile hazardous compounding room necessary to maintain USP797/800 and CMS regulatory compliance, as well as provide additional services and support to a growing number of clinical trials at CHOP.

Study drug supplies currently stored in Investigational Pharmacy located on A-Level of the Main Hospital will be transferred according to policy to the newly renovated Investigational Pharmacy on the fourth floor. Drug accountability logs will accurately reflect the new location and date/time of transfer.

As a reminder, all Investigational Pharmacy policies and procedures are available in PolicyManager and may be shared with external sponsors (Research Institute Manual > Department of Pharmacy Services – IDS).

Supplies stored in and dispensed from the new Investigational Pharmacy location will include medications intended for outpatient/home use and medications administered in onsite clinics, including the Center for Human Phenomic Science.

Medications for inpatient trials, specifically oral forms and IV forms not requiring manipulation, will continue to be stored in and dispensed from the fourth floor Triage Pharmacy location.

Medications requiring preparation in a sterile environment will continue to be stored and prepared in Buerger P1 Pharmacy, Buerger Oncology Pharmacy, or Wood fourth floor Pharmacy, depending on type and handling requirements.

Investigational shipments will continue to be delivered to the A-Level Receiving Pharmacy (AW19) or fourth floor Main Triage Pharmacy (after hours and weekends). Investigational Pharmacy telephone numbers (main number: 215-590-4470) and hours of operation will remain the same (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding designated CHOP holidays).
