Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationally from September 15 to October 15. September 15 marks the anniversary of independence from Spain in 1821 for five Latin American countries – Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

Today, around 60 million people in the United States identify as Latinx or Hispanic. They are the largest minority group, representing 18% of the nation’s population!

Hispanic Heritage Month honors the history, culture, and impactful contributions of Latinx and Hispanic communities, which are evident in every corner of American society. This year the city of Philadelphia will celebrate Hispanic heritage with festivals, exhibitions, art exhibits, and more.

Here at CHOP, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) and Multicultural Professionals Network (MPN) will host an array of events and opportunities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, including employee spotlights, story time readings in Seacrest Studios, and community outreach/collaboration. Stay tuned!
