The Blavatnik Family Foundation, through the New York Academy of Sciences, will be accepting nominations for its 2021 Young Scientists national competition. The national competition recognizes the country’s most promising young faculty-rank scientists and engineers in the disciplinary categories of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, and Chemistry. CHOP is permitted to nominate up to three nominees, one in each disciplinary category. To be eligible the nominee must:

  • Have been born in or after 1979*
    *Age limit exceptions will be considered by the Academy in exceptional circumstances upon a detailed written submission from the nominating institution received by the Academy at blavatnikawards@nyas.org no later than Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
  • Hold a doctorate degree (PhD, DPhil, MD, DDS, DVM, etc.)
  • Currently hold a tenured or tenure-track academic faculty position (or equivalent)
  • Currently conduct research as a principal investigator in one of the disciplinary categories in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, or Chemistry

Please forward nominations, via email, to Robert DeNight by Friday, September 25, 2020. The nominations must include the following:

  • Cover letter including basic biographical and contact information for the nominee and nominator, including nominee’s disciplinary category (Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, and Chemistry). *If the individual was born prior to 1979, a letter describing the exceptional circumstances to consider this nominee must be included.
  • Letter of support from the Division Chief and Department Chair (no more than 2 pages). The Department Chair must co-sign the letter.
  • Nominator’s Rationale for Nomination: a statement explaining why the nominee is being nominated (maximum 200 words).
  • Nominee’s Curriculum Vitae (maximum 4 pages).
  • Nominee’s Research Summary (maximum 1,000 words).
  • Nominee’s Professional Service and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement (maximum 1 page).
  • Full-text publications and/or patents representing the nominee’s work (maximum 4 publications).
  • Names and email addresses for two letter writers familiar with nominee’s scientific contributions who will provide letters of support.

A committee composed of senior investigators will review nominations. The three (3) chosen nominees, one in each category, will be notified, promptly.
