Our Team

I manage the team providing day-to-day operation of the Research internal and external web sites, as well as supporting more than 100 hosted laboratory, program and Center of Emphasis sites.

Before joining Children's Hospital in 2003, I worked for several years as the lead web developer for a local Internet service provider and, earlier, at Lockheed Martin's Moorestown facility, where I developed and administered that facility's external site and re-designed and administered its internal site.

Before entering web design and development, I worked for nearly two decades as an engineer/writer, reporting on contract performance for major U.S. Navy programs.

I began working as a Web Developer in Research Web Services in August of 2007, after graduating from La Salle University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Digital Multimedia Design. In this position, I focus on designing and programming web-based applications and utilities for the CHOP Research community. I also assist in the design and maintenance of the Research Institute Intranet site, Research Institute public Web site, and affiliated research group Web sites when requested.

I have a firm grounding in Web standards and cross-browser compatibility issues, and make it my goal to create standards-complaint, user-friendly Web pages and applications.

I have a thorough knowledge of X/HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. I also have experience using VB .NET, T-SQL, and Java.

Prior to coming to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute, I completed an internship where I performed a variety of technical support and multimedia management tasks at the Walt Disney World Resort. I also worked part-time for La Salle University, where I designed and implemented data-driven Web applications using PHP and MySQL.

Beginning in November of 2008 I have worked in Research Web Services as a Web Developer supporting and developing web applications for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute. As a web developer and content management systems technical trainer I will further promote development and utility of our Wiki and Content Management Systems.

For over 10 years I have developed sites using a variety of technologies including X/HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. I also have experience using VB, ASP, Perl, and MSSQL. I have worked extensively with CMS technologies such as Oxcyon, Rivista, Joomla, and Drupal.

Before coming to CHOP I was the Web Master/Developer for 4 regional magazines; Delaware Today, Main Line Today, Westchester Magazine, and Hudson Valley Magazine. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tyler School of Art and an Associates Degree in Computer Programming from Chubb Institute of Technology. Prior to my career in Web Development I was a middle and high school teacher in Maryland and Japan.

I joined the RIS Web Services team in February of 2011, after completing a co-op working for both the RIS web team and the Center for Injury Research and Prevention, focusing on metrics reporting and search engine optimization. Currently I am responsible for updates to existing sites, in addition to the development of new pages using HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and the JOOMLA! content management system.

In addition to web development I manage the Colket Translational Research Building's digital signage display software. The system uses Omnivex Moxie software to display a mix of live and static data on monitors throughout the building.

I graduated from La Salle University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management, and Management Information Systems. I have since been pursuing my Masters degree in Iniformation Systems at Drexel University, which I hope to complete in 2012.

I came to CHOP's Research Institute in fall of 2012 after a long career of IT work in the non-profit world, including heading up the IT department of a private school, designing and conducting technical training in Spain and the United States, and creating and maintaining non-profit web presences. I am an expert programmer and instructional designer, and my current areas of responsibility include the maintenance and security of the public website for the Research Institute as well as the creation of technical documentation.
