Stokes Announces Director of Research Compliance and Regulatory Affairs


Deborah Barnard joined the Stokes Institute on April 6 as the director of Research Compliance and Regulatory Affairs.

Deborah has more than 10 years of experience in regulatory compliance and an in-depth knowledge of complex regulations and international guidelines. She most recently served as director for Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement for the Institutional Review Boards at Partners Health Care Systems in Boston. She previously served as director for the Office of the Protection of Research Subjects at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

At Children’s Hospital, Deborah will develop a comprehensive compliance program that will enable Stokes to promote integrity and compliance throughout all research and sponsored programs. She will also supervise all administrative and reporting aspects of the Hospital’s Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

Some of Deborah’s specific responsibilities will revolve around developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures; serving as the in-house expert on compliance matters for Research Administration staff by monitoring regulatory developments; and developing a comprehensive training program related to compliance.
