The 2013 CHOP Research Institute Scientific Symposium, a celebration of the groundbreaking research conducted at Children's Hospital is scheduled to kick off on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 12:00 pm. The symposium will continue on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm. All events are scheduled to take place on the first floor of the Colket Translational Research Building (CTRB). The symposium will include research presentations and panel discussions from CHOP faculty associated with our Research Affinity Groups (RAGs). The CHOP RAGs showcase the diverse, cross-cutting and multidisciplinary work being performed at CHOP and demonstrate how basic, clinical and translational research can be effectively integrated within a larger research program.
In previous years, this annual event was a daylong celebration. For 2013, this program has been re-structured to better showcase the institution's strengths in pediatric basic, clinical and translational research while meeting the challenging schedules of our research community. Each of the two half day sessions will consist of a keynote address as well as a number of faculty presentations, moderated panel discussions, and Q&A sessions, all focused on the novel discoveries of Children's Hospital researchers. This year's Symposium will also feature a State of the Research Institute address given by Philip Johnson, M.D., Chief Scientific Officer.
Program highlights include faculty presentations focused on:
- A Child's Immune System - From the Clinic to Molecular Understanding and Back
- Mito Cell, the Search for a Signal Answer
- Coherence of Circuits and Researchers: Advancing our Understanding of Epilepsy
- Improving the Lives of Children Through Intervention: Research Communities and Research in the Community
