Student Opportunities at the Center

Each year, The Center hosts positions for students to assist researchers with current projects and gain unique hands-on experience conducting cutting-edge research in their chosen fields of study.

Students who are accepted into the program also have the opportunity to become involved with faculty and staff at two world-renowned institutions: The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and The University of Pennsylvania.

Students at the Center have the opportunity to find real-world applications for their training. Engineering students see the results of crash forces and kinetics by participating in crash investigations. Mathematicians can help our biostatisticians validate a new research methodology. Psychology majors can test their clinical skills by helping Center researchers run focus groups for our qualitative research with young drivers.

Each year, we host two students through the Drexel University Co-Op program. From time to time, other positions become available. Check this section of our website for updated opportunities.

CChIPS - Request for Student Proposals due February 1, 2010

The Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies (CChIPS) invites students and faculty to submit project proposals. CChIPS is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC). The CChIPS mission is to advance the safety of children by facilitating the conduct of scientific inquiry into childhood injuries and to translate these findings into commercial applications and public education programs for prevention.

The scope of the research projects undertaken at CChIPS fall into the following categories:

  • Injury biomechanics, mechanisms, and tolerance
  • Technological solutions for injury prevention - design, development and testing
  • Human interaction with and behavior related to safety technology
  • Education and promotion of safety
  • Safety technology evaluation and cost-effectiveness
