The BSL3 facility, located in Abramson 1203C, allows investigators working with potentially pathogenic agents, such as HIV, hepatitis and herpes simplex, among others, access to flow cytometry and cell sorting for live, unfixed material. By having access to the state-of-the-art cell sorter, users of the facility can perform the most sophisticated flow cytometric analyses. The FACSDiVa cell sorter is equipped with three lasers and eight fluorescence detectors, which provide an array of excitation laser lines from the ultraviolet to the near ultraviolet and throughout the visible spectrum. This facility is capable of performing a wide variety of applications, including multiple-color immunophenotyping, DNA content, stem cell detection, detection of genes marked with fluorescent proteins, receptor mapping via energy transfer and calcium flux studies. High-speed and four-way sorting are also available.
