WE TAKE THE RISC OUT OF SHIPPING
FULL SERVICE IMPORT/EXPORT PERMIT REVIEW/PROCUREMENT SUPPLIES
- Full service shipping of biologic specimens and dangerous goods:
The Shipping Core provides full service shipping of biologic specimens and dangerous goods from sample drop-off to delivery confirmation. This includes the proper classification, packaging, labeling and documentation of specimens as required by federal regulations. The Core will provide status updates for packages including sample receipt confirmation, tracking information and delivery confirmation. Research Institute staff utilizing the Shipping Core will not require shipping training. - Import/Export permit review and procurement:
The importation or exportation of materials may require a permit from one or more regulatory agencies. The Shipping Core will review each specimen being shipped to determine if an export permit(s) is required for shipment. Many countries require a USDA certificate to accompany animal or animal product exports and will not allow the materials to be received in country without these certificates.
An import is any item that is received into the U.S. from a foreign destination. Imports into the United States may be subject to permitting. The Shipping Core can assist in arranging for the proper import permit. Additionally, your shipment to another country (export) may require an import permit from the destination country. The consignee (the person receiving the shipment) should determine this prior to shipment and obtain the appropriate permit for you to include with the shipment.
*Please note that the acquisition of import and export permits may take days to weeks to complete. These are required prior to shipping. Please consult with the Shipping Core Manager with as much advance notice as possible in order to ensure prompt delivery of your shipment. - Export Controls permit review and procurement:
Export Control laws are federal laws that govern how certain information, technology and commodities can be transmitted to anyone overseas (including US citizens overseas) or to foreign nationals here in the US on US soil. These laws can affect an institution in many different and unexpected ways. When applicable, these regulations may require CHOP to receive authorization from the US Government in the form of an export license. The Shipping Core will review all shipments or situations which may involve export controls issues. - Certified Shipper registration:
The PI of the lab may decide to register the lab staff as "Certified Shippers" and continue shipping independently of the Shipping Core. "Certified Shippers" may still utilize the Shipping Core as needed. In order to be registered as a "Certified Shipper" the PI must:
- Register the lab and the names of staff who will be responsible for shipping
- Ensure that all staff involved with shipping of hazardous substances are properly trained (Training is required once every 2 years and is provided by the Shipping Core)
- Provide the Shipping Core with documentation of all packages shipped
- Ensure that all applicable regulations and permitting is followed at all times
- Shipping supplies for Certified Shippers:
The Shipping Core will stock and provide shipping supplies to Certified Shippers at or below cost depending on the specific item.
