As a result of our participation in Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Informatics workgroup initiatives, CBMi is developing a comprehensive view of the informatics capabilities within the Joseph Stokes Jr. Research Institute. This process has resulted in a more complete understanding of the data systems - and their roles and interconnections - used by core facilities, Centers of Emphasis and individual research laboratories. CBMi is providing Stokes Institute researchers and administrators with this expanded understanding, resulting in decisions that benefit from a greater degree of integration and will continue to impact translational research over time.
CBMi staff and faculty are active in collaborations with other CTSA institutions, including Children's Hospital's CTSA partner, the University of Pennsylvania. CBMi uses these interactions to contextualize the needs of Stokes researchers beyond the borders of Children's Hospital and to implement internal systems that have been successfully piloted at other institutions. By utilizing the CTSA network, CBMi offers Stokes researchers better products, services, vendors, costs and integrated solutions.
CBMi represents Stokes Institute at CTSA Informatics workgroups and CBMi members serve on a variety of active workgroups. In addition, CBMi is playing a lead role in plans for a CTSA symposium focused on community-wide data repository best practices, and is advancing efforts to establish a laboratory information management systems forum within the CTSA. By centralizing the translational informatics experiences of the CTSA research centers, core facilities and individual investigators, CBMi is expected to become the primary body for information exchange and collaboration within the larger CTSA Informatics community.
