AIDS Researcher Robert Doms, MD, PhD, Named AAAS Fellow

Children’s Hospital AIDS researcher and Pathologist-in-chief Robert W. Doms, MD, PhD, who also serves as chair of the Perelman School of Medicine’s Department of Microbiology, was named an AAAS Fellow along with four UPenn investigators.

Defining The Future

Amino Acids Relieve Sleep Problems Following Traumatic Brain Injury

Researchers who fed a cocktail of key amino acids to mice improved sleep disturbances caused by brain injuries in the animals. These new findings suggest a potential dietary treatment for millions of people affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) — a condition that is currently untreatable.

One Year After Sandy Hook

A year ago, the nation — and indeed the world — was shocked by the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT., that claimed the lives of 26 people, 20 of whom were children.

CHOP Hematologist and Gene Therapy Researcher Honored

For her pioneering hemophilia and gene therapy research, Children’s Hospital hematologist Katherine A. High, MD, director of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics (CCMT), was recently honored with the 2013 E. Donnall Thomas Lecture and Prize at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting.

Groundbreaking Leukemia Research Featured at ASH Annual Meeting

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s groundbreaking leukemia research was on display at the recent American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting. National Pediatric Research Network Act Passed

Last week, President Obama signed into law the National Pediatric Research Network Act. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and other leading children’s hospitals making up the Coalition for Pediatric Medical Research lobbied Congress over a number of years to pass legislation that creates multi-institution pediatric research networks throughout the United States.

Surgeon and Brain Tumor Researcher Named Chief of Neurosurgery
