Research at Children’s Hospital continues to grow at an astounding rate. The number of research projects requires increased facilities to support investigators, their staff, and administrative offices. To continue to fulfill its mission as a leader in patient care, research and teaching, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute is undergoing one of the largest and most ambitious healthcare expansion projects in the nation. The new South Campus — which includes the Colket Translational Research Building, opened in 2009, and an Ambulatory Care Center currently under construction —includes space for both clinical care and research activities.
The South Campus facilities are in close proximity to the Main Hospital, the Abramson Research Center, and University of Pennsylvania research buildings. Approximately 8 acres of the 20-acre site will be devoted to Children’s Hospital development; the University of Pennsylvania will develop the remaining 12 acres. When complete, the South Campus will nearly double the size of the Hospital’s presence in the University City section of Philadelphia.
